Have you ever been inspired or harrowed by stories of The Great War? Millions of men fought and died for their countries in a style of warfare that had never been seen before. Millions of lives changed forever. WW1 provides us with some truly inspiring tales of heroism and bravery, it also provides us with truly horrific and gruesome scenes that make us question our own humanity.
Into the Trenches: Lions Led by Lambs is an attempt to capture the time period and provide a system for telling stories that honor the memory of this war. We hope that by exploring these themes that players can learn things about themselves and really connect to the past.
WW1 games are typically wargames, primarily focused on the tactical or strategic aspects of the war. We wanted to make a WW1 TTRPG so we could focus more on the men that lived through those experiences. The system has been designed to provide mechanical tools for telling those stories.
Into the Trenches is being published as part of DriveThruRPG’s PocketQuest Game Jam. The theme of the game jam is “Dreams and Nightmares”. What better experience in human history captures the grandeur of the Dreams that soldiers had going into WW1, and the true nightmare that they ended up experiencing. The PocketQuest also requires that games be relatively short, pocket sized. This led us to focus on a rules lite game that would be easy to learn and simple to play.
The game has been submitted for publication through DriveThruRPG and will be available online as of May 5th.
